AARP: Older adults may be eligible for SNAP benefits and not know it

Many older Virginians may be eligible for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits and not realize it, according to officials with the AARP. SNAP is a federal program that provides food assistance to those struggling to afford groceries. While the program is often referred to as "food stamps," it can benefit anyone age 50 and older who has a difficult time affording food.
