National Safe Digging Day is Aug. 11

August 11 is National Safe Digging Day, and officials are reminding Virginians that they must call 811 at least three days before any digging project. Doing so prompts the appropriate utility companies to mark all underground utility lines, helping prevent damage to them and related injuries and fines. Officials will mark the lines with colored flags, spray paint, or both, indicating which type of utility is underground and where to avoid digging.
