New law for farm vehicles takes effect July 1

Beginning July 1, Virginia farmers will be required to use farm use tags on all eligible farm use vehicles, as part of a new law passed by the Virginia General Assembly in 2023 with a one-year grace period. The new law requires unregistered farm vehicles to display a Department of Motor Vehicles-issued permanent farm use placard on panel trucks, pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of 7,500 pounds or less.
